1.22 Beta
Beta
Kosshi 1.22 adds row selection, which selects rows together with their children, and highlight colors. On iPhone and iPad, the keyboard toolbar and the controls panel are new.
Row Selection (Mac)
While editing a row, press Esc to select that row together with its children. Press Esc again to return to where the cursor was.
Cmd+L also starts row selection. Press Cmd+L again to expand the selection to the parent branch. Repeat to move up the outline. Cmd+Shift+L steps back one level at a time. You can adjust the selection without using the mouse.
- Shift+Up and Shift+Down grow or shrink the range across levels. Selecting a parent also selects its collapsed children.
- When zoomed in, the selection does not expand beyond the zoomed branch.
- Typing clears row selection and starts text input.
- On iPad with a hardware keyboard, Esc and Cmd+L work the same way.
Added a Row Selection page to the beta guide.
Row Selection (iPhone, iPad)
As before, touch and hold an area without text, such as the left or right margin, to start row selection. New in 1.22, handles let you adjust the selected range afterward.
- Drag the handles at the top-right and bottom-right of the selection to grow or shrink it. Drag the top handle up to the parent row to select the whole parent branch.
- While rows are selected, the keyboard toolbar switches to row commands. If the keyboard is hidden, the same keyboard toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap inside or outside the selection to clear it.
Highlight Colors
Highlights can now have a color. Along with the existing highlight (Default), you can choose green, red, blue, yellow, or purple (#14).
Type == to see color suggestions. Choosing a color also adds the closing ==. Place the cursor inside a highlight to show a color dot at its start, and click the dot to change that highlight's color. On iPhone and iPad, touch and hold the Highlight key in the controls panel to choose a color.
The color is saved as a color emoji right after the opening ==, as in ==🟢text==. Colors are kept when you export Markdown, and other apps can still show which color you chose.
Keyboard Toolbar
The keyboard toolbar on iPhone and iPad has been redesigned. It shows commands for your current selection, with common commands first.
While typing

With text selected

With rows selected

Swipe the keyboard toolbar sideways to see commands that do not fit. The … button at the right end opens the controls panel, and ✓ hides the keyboard.
Controls Panel
Tap … on the keyboard toolbar to open the controls panel in place of the keyboard. The panel brings common editing commands together. Tap the keyboard button to return to typing.
See Keyboard Tools in the beta guide for the full key layout.
Find Action and Move To
On iPhone and iPad, Find Action and Move to… now open in a compact field just above the keyboard. Your text stays visible while you choose a command or destination. With a hardware keyboard, the same field opens at the bottom of the screen.
Find Action keeps your text selection while it is open. Select text, then use Find Action to apply Bold or another command to it.
Move to… lets you search for a destination while the rows you are moving stay visible. Each result also shows its parent row. Jump to Row and Bookmarks open in the same field.
Open both from the end of the keyboard toolbar.
Touch and hold the search button in the header to open Jump to Row in the same field. Type part of a row's name and choose it to go to that row.
Pin Quick Capture
On Mac, you can now pin Quick Capture. A pinned Quick Capture stays open when you switch to another app, so you can keep jotting things down while reading a web page or a document (#64).
Use the pin button at the top right, or Pin / Unpin Quick Capture in Find Action. Closing it with Esc also unpins it.
Tag and Link Suggestions
On iPhone and iPad, type # or @ to show suggestions. Type [[ to find a link destination in the field above the keyboard. Bookmarked rows appear first.
Other Changes
- On iPhone, entering a link and previewing an internal link now use a card in the center of the screen.
- The icons in the Style menu and the format bar on Mac now match iPhone and iPad.
- The icons for moving rows up and down are easier to tell apart from the cursor arrows.
- When CloudKit data is deleted from another device or from iCloud settings and Kosshi clears the data on this device, Kosshi now creates a backup first, even with automatic backups turned off.
