Frequently Asked Questions

Pricing

Is Kosshi free?

There is a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. After the trial, the app switches to read-only mode — you can view your existing data but cannot create or edit. A one-time purchase through the App Store unlocks all features permanently.

Why is it a one-time purchase instead of a subscription?

Kosshi stores data on the user's device and iCloud account. There is no server on the developer's side to store your data, so there are no ongoing server costs. This makes a one-time purchase model possible. There are currently no plans for a paid major upgrade, but if one is released in the future, it may require a separate purchase. The version you purchased will continue to work.

Platforms

What devices does Kosshi run on?

macOS and iOS (iPhone / iPad). The purchase is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on all devices signed in with the same Apple ID.

Is there a Windows or Android version?

No, and there are no plans for one at this time.

Data & Sync

Where is my data stored?

Outline data is stored in a local database (SQLite) on each device. It is not sent to any external server. When iCloud sync is enabled, data syncs between devices via Apple's CloudKit. Your data is stored in your Apple account, and the developer has no way to access it.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Since data is stored locally, you can edit normally without an internet connection. Changes sync automatically when you go back online.

Content disappeared after syncing

When the same row is edited on multiple devices, the most recent change takes effect. Rather than interrupting with conflict dialogs on every sync, Kosshi keeps the most recent edit.

For example, if you edit a row on your Mac and then edit the same row on your iPhone before the Mac's changes sync to the iPhone, the Mac's change will be lost. Edits to different rows are not affected.

If something looks wrong after a sync, check your auto backups. Kosshi creates backups periodically and before syncing, so you may be able to restore a previous state.

Are there automatic backups?

Yes. Kosshi automatically backs up your outlines in the background. You can view and restore backups from Settings. See Auto Backup for details.

Automatic backups exclude images and attachments to save storage space. To back up everything including images and attachments, use Manual Backup.

Features

Can I import data from other outliners?

Yes. Kosshi can import OPML files. Outliners that support OPML export (such as WorkFlowy and OmniOutliner) can be used as a source.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export as Markdown, OPML, or plain text. See Export for details.

Can I use images?

Yes. You can place images inside your outline by pasting or dragging them in. Inline previews for PDFs and videos are also supported.

How do I format text (bold, links, etc.)?

Kosshi uses Markdown for formatting. Type **bold**, *italic*, [link](URL), checkboxes, and more. Formatting markers are visible while editing and hidden when the cursor moves away. See Markdown for details.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts for everything?

Yes. All structural operations (indent, move, collapse, zoom in, etc.) have keyboard shortcuts. See Keyboard Shortcuts for the full list.

Can I collaborate or share outlines?

Not supported.

Does Kosshi support dark mode?

Yes. You can change the appearance in the app's settings.

Privacy

Does the app collect usage data?

No. The app does not include any analytics or tracking. The website (kosshi.app) uses Google Analytics, but the app itself does not.

Other

What happens to my data if Kosshi is discontinued?

Your data is stored locally on your device, so it remains accessible even if the app stops receiving updates. You can also export as Markdown or OPML to migrate to other tools.
