Export
You can export your outline in several formats.
Supported Formats
- Markdown (.md) — with an option to convert indentation levels to H1–H6 headings instead of bullet lists
- Rich Text (.rtfd) — formatted text and attachments for word processors and rich-text editors
- TextBundle (.textbundle) — Markdown and its image assets in a portable folder
- Plain Text (.txt)
- OPML (.opml) — a standard outline interchange format
How to Export
- Cmd+Shift+E — open the export preview, which also allows copying to the clipboard
Choose a format in the preview, then copy the result or save it to a file. Heading mode is available for Markdown, Rich Text, and TextBundle.
Copy As
Use Copy As when you want to place rows on the clipboard without opening the export preview.
- On macOS, right-click the selected rows or use Edit > Copy As
- On iOS, select Copy As from the edit menu
You can copy as Rich Text, Markdown, Plain Text, or OPML. TextBundle is available only as a file export because it contains multiple files.
What Gets Exported
- When a search filter is active, the rows shown by the filter are exported
- When zoomed in, the zoomed section is exported
- Otherwise, the entire outline is exported
Without an active filter, collapsed sections do not remove their descendants from the export. Attachments are included when the selected format supports them.
Print on macOS
Press Cmd+P or choose File > Print. Printing uses the same visible scope as export: filtered results, the zoomed section, or the entire outline. Turn on Expand Collapsed Rows in the print dialog to include content hidden inside collapsed sections.
Import
You can import OPML files from other outliners. Open the import dialog from the toolbar menu. Completion state from Workflowy and Dynalist exports is preserved.
When importing 1,000 or more rows, iCloud sync is turned off automatically. See Data Storage and Sync.
