Data Storage and Sync

Control iCloud and dated tag syncing from Sync settings.

Local Storage

Your outline data is stored locally on each device as a SQLite database. Each device maintains its own independent copy, so the app works fully offline.

  • Even if you disable iCloud sync, your data remains intact on the device.
  • Deleting the app removes the local database. If iCloud sync is enabled, your data can be restored by reinstalling the app.

iCloud Sync

When iCloud is available, your outlines sync across Apple devices via CloudKit.

  • Data syncs automatically through your iCloud account. No login or account creation is required.
  • Apple encrypts data in transit and at rest. CloudKit does not give the developer server-side access to individual users' private records.
  • Sync uses Apple's CloudKit framework, which is also used by Apple apps such as Notes. Sync data is stored in a private database tied to your Apple account.

Sync Timing

Changes are typically synced within a few seconds, but delays can occur depending on network conditions and iCloud server load. In some cases, syncing may take a minute or longer. If you edit the same row on two devices before a sync completes, the most recent change is kept.

Offline Editing on Multiple Devices

Since each device stores its own copy of the data, you can edit offline on multiple devices. When the devices come back online, changes are synced automatically. However, if the same row was edited on more than one device while offline, only the most recent change is kept — earlier edits to that row may be lost.

If you notice missing content after a sync, check your auto backups. Kosshi creates backups regularly, including before syncing, so you may be able to restore an earlier version.

Importing Large Outlines

When you import an OPML file with 1,000 or more rows, iCloud sync is automatically turned off, because uploading a large number of rows at once can take a long time. If you want to sync after the import finishes, turn it back on manually from the Sync tab of Settings.

Settings

In the Sync tab of Settings, you can turn iCloud sync on or off. When disabled, your data stays on the current device only.
